OPEN FOR GUESTS
OOE is open full time the end of April to mid November. Please call 519.324.5727 or email us at omsteadsonerie@gmail.com for any inquiries.
CHECK IN & OUT, THE 11 TO 4 STRETCH...
Check in is anytime after 4 pm & check out is anytime before 11 am. If you're going to be much later than 4, please let us know (so we don't worry about lost & wandering travellers).
The hours between 11 and 4 are very important to B&B hosts - we must clean rooms, prepare beds and baths, do bedding and towels, revamp the common areas and do the shopping for your breakfast.
Therefore, we politely request that guests keep in mind the Bed & Breakfast nature of Omstead's of Erie B&B and use the house and waterfront areas within the 4 pm check-in and the 11 am check-out timeframe. During this 5 hour time break, the cottage reverts to being a private room that is very busy preparing to be a unique lakefront bed and breakfast experience for our guests. Our returning-another-night guests are usually off doing their own activities. We thank you for your understanding of this policy. Single nights guests are welcome to check in anytime after 4 pm. BUT - be assured that we can be flexible in consideration of your plans and special circumstances... please call and let us know of your needs.
The beach, the lounges and waterfront patios are great spots to spend a few hours. Guests are more than welcome to enjoy our large beach, but remember that all use is completely the responsibility of the guest.
NON-SMOKING, NON-PETS
We are a non-smoking home, but do permit smoking outside. We don't accept pets..... but we have a small cat, R2, who is completely a outdoor summer cat, with a bed in the shed from April to November.
ACCESSIBILITY, IN THE HOUSE & USE OF THE BEACH & GROUNDS
Due to the nature of the cottage - a step up to the house from the mudroom entry, a step down to the breakfast area in the sunroom, & a narrow hallway to the guest rooms - we cannot consider our cottage to be accessible to all. The tub/shower in Irwin Suite is an old clawfoot tub, so climbing in may be an issue to some, and they may prefer the Patriquin Suite with a standard tub. There is a grab rail in both bathrooms' tub/shower units.
Please be aware that we don't have central air conditioning at the cottage. For most of the warm weather month, we use intake/exhaust fans in all the windows of the guest suites. The great lake breezes take care of us beautifully, but for a few days each summer, it does get very humid, and when a/c is a priority, we will have put a window unit in a window in each suite.
Outside, there's the breakwall - a drop to the beach of about 6 to 8 feet, and then the lake itself, so we have limited our younger guests to at least the age of 12.
