OOE is a wonderful bed & breakfast choice...
for so many reasons. Friends, couples, singles and family all have stayed & enjoyed the calm, relaxed & unique atmosphere of the cottage.
With the large property comes the exceptional, spacious privacy that's a pleasure to enjoy. We've had guests take a bottle of wine out to the chairs & loungers & sit and gaze at the beautiful colours of the lake as the sun rises in the east or sets behind the house in the west. Guests from cities are amazed at the panorama of the starlit sky, spreading out over Lake Erie, the clearness of the constellations & the vivid path of the Milky Way. Some guests take their book or ereader & a quilt from the rack in the sunroom out to a lounger & don't come back for hours. I call it "hydrotherapy without getting wet".
The lights of Ohio can be seen on the far horizon, & many a night we've built a fire in the firepit patio for guests to sit around it in the old canvas director chairs, while chatting, laughing, and meeting diverse and kindred spirits from across the planet.

Beaching It
In the summer, Lake Erie permitting, we have great swimming off our small beaches... beach towels are supplied. Cool off lake-style, then take a shower & go for dinner, feeling completely refreshed. The beach itself is fine sand & pebbles, from dry beach to underwater, with no rocks. Lake Erie is shallow, so rough days make it look muddled, with all the sand stirred up. But a couple of calm days & a north wind makes all the difference in clarity, as shown in the picture at the top, taken in the summer, on our beach. Guests are more than welcome to use our beach. Please keep in mind that you swim at your own risk & responsibility. So... a beautiful bedroom behind you & all of Lake Erie in front of you - this is the place to be in summer! |

Birding & Butterflying
Birders & other nature enthusiasts especially appreciate OOE. We are on the north-east side of Point Pelee National Park, the mecca for migrating birds & Monarch butterflies. Birding guests from around the world have found so many species to add to their books just around our property. We are a short ride from Point Pelee Park, even quicker when we tell you the shortcuts. Wheatley Provincial Park & Hillman Marsh Conservation Area are just 5 minutes away, plus there are multiple Conservation Areas close by. When we started reclaiming the house-encircling gardens, we transplanted the milkweed along all sides of the house and property. This picture shows the move was a success, & OOE's personal Monarch line will find their way home for generations. |
